Introduction to the Department of Mechanical Engineering

History
Established in 1969 as the Mechanical Engineering Technology Division.
Renamed in 1973 as the Mechanical Division.
Renamed in 1975 as the Mechanical Engineering Division.
Renamed in 2000 as the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Current Situation
Faculty
16 full-time teachers, 3 professors, 6 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 4 lecturers
Number of Classes
Full-Time Program: Two classes are recruited for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and one class for the Automobile Division each year.
Further studies: Recruitment discontinued since 2011.
Curriculum
The design of the curriculum is mainly based on responding to social changes and in consideration of improving the students' employability, while the needs of the industry are also included.
These include increasing student internship opportunities, strengthening industry-university cooperation, increasing students' management knowledge, and information and foreign language abilities.
Work in coordination with the staged development goals and the 4C core competencies (creativity, consideration, communication, cooperation) for vertical integration:
・Core competency course (practical): Improve the employability of students, and divide and plan the courses according to the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Division.
・Practical research course (innovation): Improve students' ability to problem-solving skills, and plan R&D design modules, precision manufacturing modules, and advanced vehicle module courses.
・ Language management course (cooperation): Proper communication, leadership, teamwork skills, and international language skills.
・General studies course (consideration): Capable of adapting to the rapid changes in technology trends and humanistic care for the society and environment.
Features of the Department
In order to provide students with proper guidance on their study and career planning, the Department of Mechanical Engineering implements the following measures:
・Full guided study system: Allows students to learn effectively and guides students through all the learning activities through years 1-4.
・Professional practice (external internship) course: Learning diversion so that students who are interested in employment can take the professional practice (external internship) course in the fourth year.
[Key Fields of Study]
The technical research and development focus of the department is drawn up line with community industry development and combined with industry expert opinions:
・R&D design: Includes technologies such as medical assistive device technology and mold design analysis.
・Precision manufacturing: Includes technologies such as reverse engineering rapid prototyping, and microsystem manufacturing.
・Vehicle service: Includes technologies such as automotive electronics and advanced vehicle energy (green energy).
[Promotional Service]
・Vehicle service technology: Provides academic and industry-related technical services in conjunction with automotive service plants and related instrument suppliers.
・Reverse engineering technology: Combines related technology suppliers to provide technical services such as rapid prototyping, scanning, and analysis.
・  Assistive technology: The department's assistive technology research and development have yielded fruitful results, and we plan to provide industry-related technical services in conjunction with schools, hospitals and related industries.
Departmental Educational Objectives
Department of Mechanical Engineering Educational Objectives:
・ Cultivate professional and practical mechanical engineering professionals.
・Cultivate modern members of the civil society with dedication to their work and respect for their peers.
Development Strategies of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Educational Objectives:
・Lay down the foundation of basic abilities: Emphasize the education of foundation subjects and technical subjects, and enhance basic skills such as computer, information, and practical experience.
・Strengthen professional knowledge: Through solid basic abilities, strengthen the professional curriculum education of the department's development priorities, and incorporate the resources of the related departments of the school to introduce the skills training required by the domestic industry.
・   Strengthen practical skills: Provide students with practical experience through industry-university cooperation, and promote themed production or research competitions to enable students to learn problem-solving skills.
